Hardware Designs

• Designed the next generation access controllers for a major security systems manufacturer. The design is fully 32 bit, has memory for in excess of 60,000 cardholders, two readers, four high current relays and supports multiple card formats at the same time. The platform has an option for on board Ethernet. A four layer circuit board was used, all CAD layout done in house along with management of prototype units.

Software and Database

• A food manufacturer wanted to use the credentials in an access system to restrict machine operators. A solution was implemented in the SQL database that allowed the machine PLC units to validate access rights by sending card swipes to the database routine. The routine then returns the correct access, which the PLC automatically implements.

• A client implemented a central alarm screen in one of its data centers and wanted the access system to send selected alarms for display. Linked servers were implemented in SQL to filter and send the required data. This solution is independent of which access system is used- it is implemented solely in the database.

• Created software to log customer tech support calls. The package uses SQL Server as the back end database, has screens for customer contacts, products, opening calls, closing calls, along with graphical reports written in Crystal Reports. This software has been in use for over 5 years at an access control manufacturer.

• A cellular company paid a third party developer to design a locker system using card access to track sample cell phones in its call center. Unfortunately the job was botched and BGC was called to help. A series of patches and then an almost complete rewrite put the system on track.
